SRINAGAR: As the night chill intensifies across Kashmir, Srinagar — the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir — recorded the coldest night of the season at –1.6°C, officials from the Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. According to MeT data, Pahalgam remained the coldest in the Valley, with temperatures dropping to –3.8°C.Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a low of –1.5°C, while the mercury settled at –2.0°C in Kupwara. SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday conducted coordinated searches at multiple locations in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, targeting the residences of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists, officials said. According to officials, the searches were carried out at the homes of several JeI members, including Dr. Hameed Fayaz of Nadigam and Mohammad Yousuf Falahie of Chitragam. In a statement, a police spokesperson said, “Shopian Police are conducting searches at multiple locations across the district at the residences of JeI activists. SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar, to assess the current security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
