JAMMU: A social media post by the Jammu and Kashmir Police has gone viral in the wake of the Red Fort blast in Delhi, prompting fresh speculation around the suspected terrorist, Dr Umar, officials said on Wednesday.
Hours before the explosion, the J&K Police posted on X: “You can run, but you can’t hide.” The post has triggered widespread discussion online after preliminary investigations suggested that the vehicle involved in the blast was allegedly linked to Dr Umar, believed to be associated with a Faridabad-based JeM module.
According to investigators, Umar had reportedly travelled to Delhi in an attempt to evade arrest by J&K Police and was hiding near a parking area close to the Red Fort.
Investigators Examine Possibility of Panic-Induced Blast
Sources in the security establishment said early findings indicate the explosion may not have been a pre-planned attack. Some officials believe the blast could have occurred accidentally when Umar allegedly panicked and attempted to escape from the parking area.
The theory gained momentum after it emerged that the J&K Police, with assistance from the Haryana Police, had dismantled a terror module in Faridabad hours before the incident, seizing around 2,900 kg of explosives, assault rifles and arresting multiple operatives.
Officials suggest the development may have placed Umar under “tremendous pressure,” possibly influencing his behaviour before the blast. However, agencies have emphasised that the investigation is still in its early stages and no conclusion has been drawn yet.
Probe Continues
Central and state security agencies are currently analysing forensic samples from the blast site, digital communications, movement details, and CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.
An official involved in the probe said, “All angles are being examined. It is too early to determine whether the blast was accidental, self-triggered, or deliberate. The investigation is ongoing.”
