SAMBA: In a crackdown on drug-related activities, police on Friday detained 16 people from identified hotspots in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Acting on specific inputs, police launched an operation in Rakh Barotian area of Vijaypur tehsil, which is known for drug-related incidents. During the operation, several homeless individuals were found moving suspiciously in the area, prompting police action. The individuals were detained under preventive provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and were later lodged in District Jail Kathua, officials added. SRINAGAR: A stone sculpture, later identified as Goddess Durga, was recovered from the River Jhelum by a local fisherman in Baramulla district and subsequently handed over to the Archaeology Department following due procedure. The fisherman, Nazir Ahmad Latoo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Latoo and a resident of Shaltang/Zogyar, reported to Police Station Sheeri that he had discovered the stone sculpture while fishing in the river.
