SAMBA: In a crackdown on drug-related activities, police on Friday detained 16 people from identified hotspots in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Acting on specific inputs, police launched an operation in Rakh Barotian area of Vijaypur tehsil, which is known for drug-related incidents. During the operation, several homeless individuals were found moving suspiciously in the area, prompting police action.
The individuals were detained under preventive provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and were later lodged in District Jail Kathua, officials added.
The action forms part of the ongoing drive to curb drug peddling and substance abuse in the region. Reiterating its resolve to eliminate the drug menace, police said strict action will continue against those involved in narcotics-related activities.
Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate by sharing information to help eradicate the drug problem from society.
