JAMMU: Shiv Sena Dogra Front activists, led by party president Ashok Gupta, took out a protest rally in Jammu city on Wednesday against the alleged display of the National Flag in an inverted position by former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Addressing the protesters, Gupta described the incident as a matter of serious concern and urged the authorities to initiate an inquiry and take appropriate action in accordance with the Flag Code of India and other applicable laws.
The protesters said the Tricolour represented the unity and sovereignty of the country and symbolised the sacrifices of freedom fighters and security personnel.
They maintained that every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation or public office, was duty-bound to treat the National Flag with dignity and respect.
The party alleged that displaying the Tricolour upside down amounted to disrespect and demanded that the administration conduct a fair investigation into the incident.
Gupta said strict action should be taken without discrimination if any violation of the Flag Code or other legal provisions was established.
“No individual is above the law, and the sanctity of the National Flag must be preserved at all times,” he said.
He also appealed to political parties and public representatives to exercise utmost care while displaying the Tricolour and uphold the dignity and values associated with it.
The protest concluded with slogans in honour of the National Flag.
Among those present were Abhishek, Bittu, Ganesh, Bantu, Prem, Kalu, Rampal, Naresh, Ram and other party activists.
