JAMMU The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Tuesday rescued a dumper driver trapped inside his vehicle after it plunged into a gorge in the Salini area of Nagrota, while simultaneously launching a search operation for a man suspected to have drowned in the Ranbir Canal in Jammu.
According to officials, the SDRF Control Room received information during the intervening night of July 28 and 29 from the District Police Lines (DPL) Police Control Room regarding a road accident in which a dumper bearing registration number JK19-8556 skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Salini.
The driver, identified as Sanjay Singh (40), a resident of Chanderkote in Ramban district, was trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
An SDRF rescue team from Battalion Headquarters, Jammu, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalit Kumar and led by Sub-Inspector Bachitter Singh, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Using specialised rescue equipment, the team carried out a strenuous operation and successfully extricated the injured driver after sustained efforts. He was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
In a separate operation on Tuesday, another SDRF team from Battalion Headquarters, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Gopal Krishan, was deployed to the area near Police Post Nehru Market following reports of a missing person.
The missing man, identified as Ravi Singh (27), a resident of Camp Gol Gujral, had reportedly been missing since the previous night and was suspected to have drowned in the Ranbir Canal near the Tawi Riverfront Tube Well.
Officials said the rescue team immediately began a systematic search operation in the canal using specialised water search and rescue techniques. The search operation was continuing at the time of filing this report.
