JAMMU: The historic Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir on Monday marked the commencement of Sawan Mahotsav 2026 with a spiritually uplifting Bhajan Sandhya, drawing devotees, music lovers and cultural enthusiasts from across the region.
The inaugural programme began with the recitation of sacred Vedic chants by students of the Panjvaktra Mahadev Ved Pathshala, creating a serene and devotional atmosphere in the temple premises.
The chanting was followed by a presentation of classical devotional bhajans by Dr. Rakesh Kalotra, an ‘A’ Grade artist of Akashvani, and eminent classical vocalist Mukta Monish Mehta. Their soulful renditions received an enthusiastic response from the devotees.
The artistes were accompanied by Parshotam Kumar on the pakhawaj, Pankaj Pradhan on the harmonium, Aarv Nargotra on the guitar and Prabhat Bali on the tabla.
The confluence of Vedic chanting, classical music and collective prayer filled the temple with an atmosphere of peace, devotion and spiritual bliss. The programme also highlighted the traditional role of temples as centres of spirituality, culture and artistic expression.
Speaking on the occasion, Receiver of Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir Suresh Kumar Sharma thanked the participating artistes, musicians and devotees for making the inaugural programme a success.
“The overwhelming response to the opening programme of Sawan Mahotsav reflects the deep spiritual and cultural roots of our society,” Sharma said.
He said the temple administration was committed to preserving and promoting India’s devotional and classical traditions while providing a meaningful platform to talented local artistes.
“We hope these Bhajan Sandhyas continue to inspire devotion, strengthen our cultural heritage and bring people together in an atmosphere of faith and harmony,” he said.
Sharma said Sawan Mahotsav 2026 would continue every Monday throughout the holy month, featuring distinguished national and local artistes, devotional music, classical dance and other spiritually enriching performances.
The temple administration invited devotees and members of the public to participate in the forthcoming Bhajan Sandhyas, seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and experience the devotional ambience of the historic shrine.
