JAMMU: The historic Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir on Friday announced the commencement of its month-long Sawan Mahotsav 2026, which will feature devotional music, classical performances and Bhajan Sandhyas every Monday during the holy month of Sawan.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the temple premises.
One of Jammu’s oldest and most revered temples, Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir has long been associated with preserving the tradition of temples serving as centres of devotional music, classical arts and spiritual awakening.
As part of the festival, Bhajan Sandhyas will be organised after the evening Sandhya Aarti on August 3, 10, 17 and 24, with the temple hosting devotional singing, Vedic chanting, Indian classical music and traditional dance performances.
This year’s festival will feature performances by noted artistes, including Dr. Rakesh Kalotra, Mukta Monish Chopra, Pankaj Pradhan, Nitika Aggarwala, Bharatanatyam exponent Dr. Rita Dev, a disciple of Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi, and Kathak artiste Dr. Priya Dutta along with her disciples from Nrityanjali Kathak Dance Academy.
The organisers said the Mahotsav will also provide a platform to emerging local artistes to showcase their talent before devotees and lovers of Indian classical arts.
Addressing the media, Receiver of the temple Suresh Kumar Sharma said the Sawan Mahotsav has evolved into one of Jammu’s prominent spiritual and cultural celebrations, bringing together devotees, music lovers and admirers of Indian classical traditions.
He said the initiative aims to revive the age-old tradition of temples functioning as centres of spirituality, culture and artistic excellence while encouraging young local talent.
The organisers invited devotees and the public to participate in the Bhajan Sandhyas and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during the holy month.
Among those present at the press conference were retired senior architect Sanjay Tickoo, Rangyug founder and director Deepak Kumar, Anil Gupta, Ashish Sharma, besides devotees, artistes and cultural enthusiasts.
