Mumbai/Guwahati: Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral relief and recovery initiative for communities affected by the devastating floods in Upper Assam, with a focus on supporting at least 10,000 flood-hit families in the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.
The Foundation said the intervention has been planned in consultation with government authorities and follows rapid on-ground needs assessments conducted by its disaster management teams in coordination with district administrations and local stakeholders.
Triggered by intense rainfall and flash floods, the disaster has claimed lives, damaged homes and public infrastructure, disrupted livelihoods and heightened public health risks across the region. According to the Foundation, more than 5 lakh people have been affected in Sivasagar and Charaideo, with extensive damage to infrastructure, livestock and essential services.
As part of its relief efforts, Reliance Foundation has initiated measures to restore public health services by cleaning and rehabilitating Community Health Centres to facilitate the resumption of healthcare services. The Foundation is also supplying safe drinking water and hygiene and sanitation materials to displaced and affected families.
To address food insecurity, the Foundation has established community kitchens to provide cooked meals to families without access to food supplies. Dry ration kits are also being distributed to ensure continued nutritional support.
For families displaced by the floods, emergency shelter kits containing tarpaulins, ground sheets, mosquito nets, ropes and bedding are being arranged to provide temporary accommodation and protection.
The Foundation has also launched a livestock protection programme with the support of a 39-member team from Vantara, which is providing veterinary care and assistance for livestock and other community animals. Feed support will be extended to around 4,000 livestock affected by the floods.
Reliance Foundation said its teams are working closely with district administrations, government departments, community institutions and partner organisations to ensure relief reaches the most vulnerable families and to support recovery efforts in the flood-affected areas.
