BUDGAM: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today presided over the concluding workshop of Phase-II capacity building under the Classes of Joy – Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Approach initiative at DIET Beerwah.
The capacity-building workshop witnessed the participation of teaching staff from Zone Beerwah and focused on addressing learning gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy among school children through innovative, child-centric and level-appropriate teaching methodologies.
During the workshop, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the teaching staff and took detailed feedback on the learning and teaching methods being adopted under the initiative. He discussed the experiences of teachers, the effectiveness of the TaRL approach and the response of students to play-way and activity-based teaching interventions.
The Classes of Joy initiative, being implemented in partnership with Pratham Education Foundation, aims to bridge learning gaps among children in primary and middle schools through a structured four-step process comprising baseline assessment, grouping of children according to their learning levels, targeted teaching interventions and end-line assessment.
The initiative covers more than 850 schools, around 4,600 teachers and approximately 45,000 children across Budgam district, supported by a comprehensive mechanism for capacity building, monitoring, follow-up and academic support.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the teaching fraternity and stressed the need for sustained implementation, effective monitoring and active participation of teachers to ensure that every child receives instruction according to his or her actual learning level and progressively attains age- and class-appropriate learning outcomes.
Among others, ADC Budgam, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah; SDM Beerwah, Taufeeq Ahmad Gazi; Chief Education Officer Budgam; Principal DIET, Tehsildar Beerwah and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
