JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a major reshuffle in the Police Department, transferring and posting 100 IPS and JKPS officers with immediate effect.
The transfers were ordered through Government Order No. 499-Home of 2026, issued by the Home Department on October 9, 2026, in the interest of administration.
Among the key changes, Danesh Rana, IPS, has been posted as Managing Director of the J&K Police Housing Corporation, relieving S.J.M. Gillani of the additional charge. Garib Dass, IPS, Director, SKPA Udhampur, has been posted as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF, against an available vacancy. Abdul Jabbar, IPS, has been posted as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Armed Police, Jammu.
Dr. Mohd. Haseeb Mughal, IPS, has been appointed Director, SKPA Udhampur, replacing Garib Dass. Shahid Mehraj Rather, IPS, has been posted as IGP Technical Services, J&K, while continuing to hold the additional charge of Director Police Telecommunications until further orders.
In other senior-level changes, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, IPS, has been posted as DIG CID Headquarters, J&K, while Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, has been appointed DIG Railways in place of Zahid Naseem Manhas. Manhas has been posted as DIG Armed Police, Jammu. Swarn Singh Kotwal, IPS, has been shifted as DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range.
Among other appointments, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, IPS, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, has been posted as Commandant, 23 JKAP IR, while Mohd Yaseen Kichloo, IPS, has been appointed Principal, STC Talwara. Sanjay Kumar Kotwal, IPS, has been posted as Commandant, 18 JKAP IR, replacing Raj Singh Gouria.
Sudhanshu Dhama, IPS, has been posted as SSP Kupwara, replacing Syed Al Tahir Gillani, while Bisma Qazi, IPS, has been appointed SSP Traffic City Srinagar, replacing Aijaz Ahmad Bhat. Hareesh H.P., IPS, has been posted as Director SFF, replacing Swarn Singh Kotwal.
The reshuffle also includes changes in district police leadership. Vaibhav Meena, IPS, has been posted as SSP Poonch, replacing Shafket Hussain; Neha Jain, IPS, has been appointed SSP Sopore, replacing Iftkhar Talib; and Anna Sinha, IPS, has been posted as SSP Ramban, replacing Arun Gupta.
Harshal Rajesh Mahajan, IPS, has been appointed SSP Ganderbal, replacing Sudhanshu Dhama, while Kamal Pal Singh Malhotra, IPS, has been posted to the SSP Administration Wing, JK4C, replacing Mohd Yaseen Kichloo.
The order further provides for the posting of several officers to operational, CID, security, traffic and battalion assignments, including command appointments in the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police. A number of postings have been made against available vacancies.
The order was issued by the Home Department on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor and signed by Chandraker Bharti, Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department.
The detailed order lists transfers and postings for 100 officers of the IPS and JKPS cadres, covering senior police headquarters, district units, training institutions, traffic, CID, security and armed police formations across Jammu and Kashmir.
