KATHUA: Reaffirming its focus on citizen-centric policing and improved public services, J&K Police Kathua has recovered 105 lost or stolen mobile phones, including nine Apple iPhones, with an estimated total value of ₹23.50 lakh, officials said.
The recovery was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, IPS, following complaints lodged at various police stations across the district. The dedicated IT Section of DPO Kathua traced and recovered the handsets through technical assistance and sustained efforts over the past two months.
The recovered phones were traced from multiple locations, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. After verification and completion of legal formalities, the handsets are being returned to their rightful owners.
District Police Kathua said it has recovered around 700 lost or stolen mobile phones during the past two years, with an approximate combined value of ₹1.29 crore.
Cyber Police recovers over ₹50 lakh in fraud cases
In a parallel achievement, Cyber Police Station Kathua has recovered ₹50.43 lakh in defrauded funds in multiple cybercrime complaints between May and September 2026.
Since its establishment, the cyber police station has recovered a total of ₹2.28 crore in various online financial fraud cases through prompt intervention, freezing of fraudulent transactions and coordination with banks, payment gateways and service providers.
The efforts of the IT Section and Cyber Police Station have been appreciated by the public for their technical expertise and assistance in recovering lost property and defrauded funds.
Police have appealed to residents to report lost or stolen mobile phones immediately through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. For cyber financial fraud, people have been advised to call 1930 during the crucial initial period or report the incident through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
