Dr Sudhaa Sharma Honoured With Lifetime Achievement Award at North Zone Menopause Conference in Jammu
JAMMU: Renowned gynaecologist and President of the Indian Menopause Society (IMS), Dr Sudhaa Sharma, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to women’s health, exemplary leadership, academic excellence and dedicated service to menopause care.
The prestigious award was presented during the inauguration function of the three-day North Zone Conference of the Indian Menopause Society (NZ-IMS) in Jammu, which brought together more than 350 eminent doctors, including nearly 100 leading gynaecologists and specialists from across the country for scientific deliberations, interactions and exchange of clinical experience.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, while Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, was the special guest.
Prof. Umesh Rai presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Sudhaa Sharma in recognition of her longstanding contribution to women’s healthcare, commitment to advancing menopause care, academic excellence and leadership in promoting greater awareness and evidence-based approaches to the health concerns of midlife women.
A key highlight of the conference was Dr Sharma’s presidential oration, “Rediscovering Self During and After Menopause,” in which she addressed important aspects of women’s health and wellbeing during and beyond menopause.
The conference was organised by the Jammu Menopause Society in association with the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, under the leadership of Dr Sharma. Dr Robina Mirza and Dr Jyotsna Lamba served as organising chairpersons, while Dr Parikh Rana was the conference coordinator.
The three-day scientific programme featured extensive deliberations on Navigating Menopause, Vasomotor Symptoms, Putting HER First, Aging Gracefully, Midlife Obesity and Blueprint for the Future of Menopausal Health. Interactive panel discussions on bone health and menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) were also among the key scientific attractions.
Nearly 50 original research papers were presented during the conference, providing a platform for doctors and researchers to exchange scientific findings, clinical experiences and emerging approaches to menopause management.
The conference also witnessed important deliberations during the Governing Council meeting, with discussions and decisions focused on strengthening initiatives for the welfare and healthcare needs of midlife women.
The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony, bringing together medical professionals from across the country and reaffirming the importance of knowledge sharing, evidence-based menopause care, scientific research and a multidisciplinary approach to midlife women’s health.
