KATRA: Reasi Police have arrested four persons, including two from whose possession heroin was allegedly recovered, during a night patrol in Katra town, officials said on Sunday.
A police party from Police Station Katra noticed four persons sitting at a secluded spot near Yog Ashram in Katra during the intervening night of July 31 and August 1 and found them behaving suspiciously, they said.
The accused were identified as Vasu Malhotra of Akhnoor, Rohit Singh of Chandian in Akhnoor, Sushil Sharma of Jandyal Kot in Bhalwal and Vishal Singh of Chandian in Akhnoor.
During the search, police recovered approximately 2.7 grams of heroin, commonly known as “chitta”, along with a polythene pouch from the possession of Vasu Malhotra and Rohit Singh, officials said.
A case has been registered under Sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Katra.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify forward and backward linkages in the alleged drug supply network.
Reasi Police said it would continue its drive against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information related to narcotics smuggling and substance abuse.
