JAMMU: Former MLC Vikramaditya Singh, grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu & Kashmir, participated in the General Council Meeting of Mayo College, Ajmer, held to commemorate the institution’s landmark 150th year.
A Patron Member of the General Council, Vikramaditya’s presence reaffirmed the longstanding and distinguished association of the Dogra royal family with the prestigious institution.
Vikramaditya Singh was inducted as a Patron Member of the Mayo College General Council in late 2024, becoming the only Patron Member from outside Rajasthan. In this capacity, he contributes to upholding the institution’s legacy, strengthening its educational framework, and guiding its vision as Mayo College completes a century and a half of excellence.
The Dogra royal family’s relationship with Mayo College spans over a century. Maharaja Hari Singh, who enrolled in Mayo College in 1908, later played a significant role in shaping the institution’s growth as a member of its Governing Council. In 1912, he and his father Raja Amar Singh funded the construction of Kashmir House, an iconic building that continues to symbolize the deep and enduring bond between Jammu & Kashmir and Mayo College. Over the decades, numerous students from J&K have been part of this proud academic heritage.
During the meeting, Vikramaditya joined distinguished Council members, alumni, senior administrators, and dignitaries from India and abroad to review recent developments and plan the institution’s future trajectory.
Expressing his appreciation, Vikramaditya lauded the institution’s progress, its steadfast commitment to traditional values, and its efforts to integrate modern educational practices, including advancements in sports and co-curricular activities.
The Mayo College General Council is headed by Gaj Singh of Jodhpur as President, with Brijraj Singh of Kishangarh serving as Vice-President.
