SRINAGAR: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expressed deep regret over a fatal road accident that occurred late Friday night at Village Watarwani on Phase-1 of the Srinagar Ring Road project.
Five people travelling in a Tata Sumo lost their lives after the vehicle collided with a boom placer belonging to NKC company.
According to initial findings, the Tata Sumo had entered the construction zone without authorization. NHAI clarified that the stretch is still under development and has not been opened to public traffic. The area houses heavy machinery and incomplete road work, posing significant risks to intruding vehicles.
NHAI appealed to citizens to strictly avoid accessing under-construction stretches of the ring road, stressing that unauthorized movement endangers lives and disrupts vital infrastructure progress. The authority, along with the contractor and local administration, has decided to strengthen safety measures with stricter access control, improved barricading and signage, and increased vigilance at approach points.
Offering condolences to the bereaved families, NHAI urged the public to comply with safety notifications to prevent any such tragedies in the future.
