BUDGAM: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam today conducted a second awareness programme for drivers and helpers of public transport to sensitise them about women’s safety, legal rights, dignity and respectful treatment in public transportation.
The participants were sensitised about women’s reservation in public transport, prevention of harassment and misconduct, and the importance of ensuring a safe and dignified environment for women commuters. They were advised to ensure that reserved seats for women are made available to them and to maintain polite, professional and responsible conduct.
Zahoor Ahmad Malik, Resource Person, highlighted the legal rights of women and the duties and responsibilities of drivers and helpers towards ensuring their safety and dignity. He impressed upon the participants that any act of harassment or misconduct may attract legal consequences.
The programme was attended by representatives and staff of ARTO Budgam, officials and staff of DLSA Budgam, Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs), drivers and helpers of public transport and members of the general public.
DLSA Budgam reiterated its commitment to promoting awareness regarding women’s rights and called upon the transport community to contribute towards making public transportation safe, respectful and women-friendly.
