SRINAGAR: In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police in District Ganderbal on Tuesday recovered arms, ammunition and cash worth ₹8.40 lakh and arrested two persons during a late-evening operation.
The recovery was made by Police Station Ganderbal in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Gundrehman Bridge. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK15B-7309 during naka checking.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the following items:
- One Chinese pistol
- One pistol magazine
- Four pistol rounds
- Two hand grenades
- Cash amounting to ₹8,40,500
The arrested accused have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir, son of Mohammad Subhan Mir, a resident of Hajin in Bandipora district, and Shabnum Nazir, daughter of Nazir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Shalabugh in Ganderbal district.
A case has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered arms and cash, their intended use, and any possible terror or criminal linkages.
