SRINAGAR: Cold conditions continued across the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, with several areas recording sub-zero minimum temperatures, official data showed.
Gulmarg, the popular ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded the lowest temperature at minus 5°C, while Sonamarg and Shopian were even colder, settling at minus 5.5°C each. Pulwama recorded a low of minus 4.9°C, followed by Anantnag at minus 4.2°C and Beerwah in Budgam at minus 4.1°C.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature dipped to minus 2.4°C, while the Srinagar airport registered minus 3.4°C. Other places, including Qazigund, Kupwara, Pampore, Awantipora, Budgam, and Sopore, witnessed minimum temperatures hovering around minus 3°C.
In the Jammu region, minimum temperatures were comparatively higher. However, Banihal recorded minus 2.3°C, while Bhaderwah settled at minus 1.8°C. Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2°C, with the Jammu airport at 7.4°C. Katra registered 7°C, Kathua 6°C, and Poonch 5.7°C.
Meteorological officials said cold wave conditions are likely to persist in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, while the plains may experience a gradual improvement in night temperatures over the next few days.
