SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Thursday visited Kulgam and Shopian districts to assess the security situation, counter-terrorism grid, crime mitigation measures and overall law and order scenario in South Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Mattoo. During the visit, Sujit Kumar chaired security and crime review meetings in both districts, attended by the respective Senior Superintendents of Police and other senior and jurisdictional gazetted officers.
The SSPs of Kulgam and Shopian briefed the IGP on the prevailing security situation, status of anti-terror operations, counter-insurgency grids, crime prevention strategies and measures being undertaken to maintain public order.
Reviewing operational preparedness, Sujit Kumar stressed the need for robust and proactive intelligence gathering, close inter-agency coordination and swift, decisive responses to emerging security challenges. He directed field formations to maintain sustained pressure on terrorist ecosystems and adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards elements attempting to disrupt peace and public order.
As part of the tour, the IGP also visited rural Sub-Division D.H. Pora in Kulgam, where he interacted with local supervisory officers, Station House Officers and jawans of the Special Operations Group, taking stock of the security and operational preparedness at the ground level.
