JAMMU: The Government of India has issued promotion orders for senior CRPF officer Ashok Samyal, with the rank formally conferred during a ceremonial pipping by the Director General, CRPF, in New Delhi.
Hailing from Village Gho Brahamana in the Vijaypur area of Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, Ashok Samyal is the son of Mani Ram Samyal. His journey from rural Jammu to senior leadership in the country’s largest Central Armed Police Force spans nearly 35 years of distinguished service.
Samyal joined the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on February 4, 1991, and has served in some of the most challenging internal security theatres of the country, including Punjab during the militancy period, Jammu and Kashmir, and Left Wing Extremism–affected regions. Over the years, he has held a wide range of command, training and staff appointments across India.
A significant portion of his career has been devoted to training and institution building. He served as Principal of the Central Training College (CTC) and Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Neemuch, and was the last Principal of CTC Neemuch in the rank of Deputy Inspector General. Under his leadership, RTC Neemuch secured first position at the All-India level, earning him the Union Home Minister’s Disc and a Commendation Letter.
Samyal also played a pivotal role in raising the first CIAT School of CRPF at Udharbond, Silchar, further strengthening the force’s counter-insurgency training capabilities.
In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2025 and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2014. He has also received Bronze, Silver and Gold Discs from the Director General, CRPF, along with multiple commendations from the Director General and the Union Home Minister.
A trained mountaineer, Samyal was part of the first Indigenous CRPF Mountain Expedition and successfully scaled Jogin Peak in the Himalayas, reflecting his commitment to operational excellence beyond conventional duties.
Academically, he completed his schooling from SRMLHS School, graduated from SPRM College of Commerce, Jammu, and later pursued law at Jammu University.
Currently posted in Delhi, Samyal has often stated that the support and blessings of the people of Jammu, especially those from his native village, have been a constant source of inspiration throughout his service to the nation.
