JAMMU: The Special Operations Group (SOG), Jammu, has arrested three alleged members of the Khauf gang from Delhi, including Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga”, who was wanted in connection with 13 FIRs, police said.
Karanjit Singh, son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar in R.S. Pura, was apprehended during an operation conducted by SOG Jammu in Delhi. He is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and has also been named in several other cases involving allegations of attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal weapons.
Police said Singh had earlier escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates. During the escape, police personnel deployed on duty were allegedly assaulted and injured in firing inside the Observation Home. In connection with the incident, FIR No. 39/2026 was registered at Police Station R.S. Pura.
During the same operation, SOG Jammu also arrested two other alleged associates of the gang from Delhi. They have been identified as Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar and a resident of Arnia, and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass and a resident of Makhanpur, Bishnah.
Police said Naresh Kumar is associated with the gang and has been involved in cases relating to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons. He is also stated to be a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul.”
Rahul Kumar is involved in a case relating to the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act, police said.
The arrests are part of the ongoing efforts of Jammu Police and SOG to trace absconders and investigate the activities of organised criminal networks.
Further investigation is underway, and police said additional arrests may follow based on evidence emerging during the probe.
