JAMMU: Amid the ongoing controversy over the allocation of MBBS seats at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), a crucial meeting of the Core Group of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti was held here on Monday.
Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and senior BJP leader, Sunil Sharma, appeared before the committee and presented the Bharatiya Janata Party’s official stand on the issue. He also responded to a series of sharp and pertinent questions raised by the members of the Sangharsh Samiti.
Addressing the meeting, Sunil Sharma said the BJP is treating the issue with utmost seriousness. He informed the committee that BJP MLAs have already met the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the matter. He further disclosed that a party delegation had also met BJP National President and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and other senior leaders in New Delhi, apprising them of the sentiments and demands of the people of Jammu.
The LoP emphasized that the BJP fully understands the gravity of the issue concerning the Medical University and is actively pursuing it at all levels. He assured that all BJP MLAs remain in constant touch with the central leadership and senior officials. Sharma also committed to personally conveying the suggestions and directions given by the Sangharsh Samiti to the party high command to ensure a just, high-level and expeditious resolution. He added that the BJP would support any unanimous decision taken in public interest.
Colonel Sukhvir Singh Mankotia, Convener of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti, expressed satisfaction over the clarity and facts presented by Sunil Sharma. He said the sole objective of the committee is to find a logical and speedy solution to the issue in order to safeguard the interests of Sanatan Dharma. Colonel Mankotia announced that the committee would soon meet leaders of other political parties in Jammu to understand their stand and assess whether they support the interests of Jammu and the public in this struggle. He reiterated that early resolution remains the primary goal.
Parshotam Dadhichi, President of Shree Sanatan Dharma Sabha, said the clarity with which Sunil Sharma presented the BJP’s position has generated positive hope. He expressed confidence that a concrete solution to the controversy surrounding admissions in the Shrine Board University would emerge soon.
