MUMBAI: Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited – a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited – and Surrey County Cricket Club on Wednesday announced a joint partnership in Oval Invincibles, the most successful franchise in The Hundred.
Under the agreement, Surrey and Reliance will hold 51% and 49% stakes respectively, marking a transfer of ownership from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
As part of the rebranding, both the men’s and women’s teams will compete as MI London from the 2026 season.
The Oval Invincibles have dominated The Hundred since its inception, clinching five consecutive titles in five years. The women’s side won the first two editions, while the men secured three back-to-back titles between 2023 and 2025. With Surrey stars like Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Will Jacks and Alice Capsey, along with global icons including Marizanne Kapp, Rashid Khan and Adam Zampa, the franchise has established itself as a powerhouse in modern cricket.
With this acquisition, the MI franchise network expands to seven teams across five countries and four continents, including Mumbai Indians (IPL), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20), and teams in WPL and Major League Cricket. The MI family has collectively won 13 major league titles, including a record five IPL trophies.
Reliance Chairperson Nita M. Ambani expressed delight over the expansion, saying the addition of MI London would take the MI legacy “to new frontiers,” while Akash Ambani highlighted the shared ethos of excellence between Mumbai Indians and the Invincibles.
Surrey CCC Chair Oli Slipper called the partnership a milestone, praising Reliance’s global cricketing success. He said the MI London brand would help strengthen the team’s identity, commercial value, and community growth.
