KATRA: Reasi Police have intensified checking and frisking operations across the district ahead of Navratri 2026, recovering approximately 2.72 grams of heroin, commonly known as chitta, from a motorcycle rider near Moori Bridge.
According to police, a team from Police Post Kakryal established a special naka near Moori Bridge as part of enhanced security arrangements for pilgrims and the general public. At around 6:50 pm, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK20C-1200, travelling from Jammu towards Katra, was intercepted for checking.
During the frisking of the rider, police recovered a black polythene packet containing approximately 2.72 grams of suspected heroin.
The rider was identified as Ujjwal Mehra, son of Ganesh Mehra, a resident of Ward No. 03 near Durga Bhawan, Katra.
In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 319/2026 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Katra. Further investigation is underway.
Reasi Police said checking drives, special nakas and surveillance measures have been intensified across the district to curb drug trafficking and other unlawful activities while ensuring the safety of pilgrims visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine during the forthcoming Navratri festival.
Police have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share information about drug trafficking or suspicious activities to help maintain a safe and drug-free environment.
