KATRA: Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking, District Police Reasi achieved a major success by arresting two individuals involved in illegal narcotics trade and seizing a heroin-like substance from their possession.
On Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm, an Alto car bearing registration number JK02AL-8831, travelling from Tikri towards Katra, was stopped for routine checking at Searli Naka. During the checking, the driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle, while the co-passenger was immediately apprehended by the alert police personnel.
The arrested individual was identified as Taj Mohammad, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Kun Kanyalan, Panthel, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi. He disclosed the identity of the absconding driver as Ravi Kumar, son of Tara Chand, resident of Dhanu Morh, Tikri, Tehsil and District Udhampur.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a white polythene packet containing approximately 1.8 grams of heroin (chitta)-like substance, which was seized as per legal formalities.
In this connection, FIR No. 47/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra, and Taj Mohammad was arrested.
Subsequently, multiple teams of Police Station Katra were constituted to apprehend the absconding accused. After sustained and coordinated efforts, Ravi Kumar was arrested from Bhagta, Katra.
The operation was conducted by SHO PS Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey (JKPS) and SP Katra Vipin Chandran (JKPS).
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh (JKPS) reiterated the District Police’s firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug trafficking.
