UDHAMPUR: A man accused in a narcotics case has been released on bail after being fitted with a GPS tracking anklet in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Mukhtar Ahmed of Karmara in Poonch district, was granted bail by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur.
Officials said the tracking device was attached on Friday as per the court’s directive to enable real-time monitoring of his movements.
Police stated that Udhampur is the first district in the Jammu division to implement GPS anklets for surveillance of drug offenders.
Ahmed was booked earlier this year at the Udhampur police station under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 111 (organised crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
