REASI: The National Lok Adalat was organized under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (J&KLSA).
The event was held under the leadership of Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi, Khalil Choudhary and the guidance of Secretary, DLSA Reasi, Pooja Gupta at the court complex in Reasi as well as at Katra and Mahore.
Three benches were constituted for disposal of cases — one at District Headquarters Reasi, one at Katra and one at Mahore. The Lok Adalat received a good response from litigants, advocates and the general public, reflecting growing confidence in the alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
A total of 65 cases were taken up, comprising pre-litigation and post-litigation matters under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act, of which 29 were settled amicably through mutual consent, with a total settlement of ₹12,42,000.
