KATRA: Reasi Police have detained a habitual offender under the J&K Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978, citing his alleged continued involvement in activities detrimental to public peace and order.
The detainee, Shivaji Singh, son of Jaswant Singh, a resident of Raipur Domana, Jammu, presently residing in Katra, was detained under PSA Order No. 02-PSA of 2026, issued by the District Magistrate, Reasi, on September 30. He has been lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
According to police, several criminal cases have been registered against Singh at different police stations. Despite previous arrests, police said he continued to engage in activities that posed a threat to public order.
The cases cited by police include FIR No. 292/2022 under Sections 341, 323, 504, 506 and 147 IPC at Police Station Katra; FIR No. 106/2025 under Sections 126(2), 115(2) and 3(5) BNS at Katra; FIR No. 258/2026 under various sections of the BNS and Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act at Katra; and FIR No. 14/2026 under Sections 132, 121 and 191 BNS at Police Station Railway Station Katra.
Police said investigation and intelligence inputs indicated his continued involvement in criminal activities and alleged efforts to establish a network to facilitate such activities.
Based on these inputs, Reasi Police prepared a detailed dossier outlining his alleged criminal antecedents and activities considered prejudicial to the maintenance of public order. The competent authority subsequently issued the PSA detention order, which was executed on Wednesday.
Reasi Police said it would continue to take lawful action against habitual offenders and individuals whose activities pose a threat to public peace and security in the district.
