JAMMU: Marking World Mental Health Day, Mission Shakti, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Jammu today organised a seminar on mental well-being at Government Degree College (GDC) Jourian to promote emotional resilience, psychological awareness and a supportive environment among students.
The session highlighted that mental well-being is fundamental to a balanced and fulfilling life. Students were sensitised to recognising emotional distress, overcoming the stigma surrounding mental health and seeking timely support when needed.
Professor Higher Education Department Dr. Ambica Sharma, serving as the resource person, delivered an insightful session on mental health, stress management, emotional regulation and maintaining a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and personal well-being. She emphasised that acknowledging emotions and seeking help are signs of strength, not weakness.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of the College Principal Dr. Anuradha Pandoh and guidance of District Mission Coordinator Mission Shakti Shagun Manchanda. Professor Sheetal, Professor Suresh and Gender Specialist Khushboo Kapte of DHEW Jammu played an instrumental role in organising the programme and facilitating meaningful interaction with students.
The session encouraged students to practise self-care, build positive relationships, communicate openly and demonstrate empathy towards individuals experiencing emotional challenges. It reinforced the message that a mentally healthy society begins with informed individuals, supportive institutions and compassionate communities.
Through this initiative, Mission Shakti reaffirmed its commitment to holistic empowerment, recognizing mental well-being as a vital pillar of individual dignity, gender equality and social progress.
