JAMMU: Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday said that the nation owes a profound debt to Maharaja Ranbir Singh for his visionary reforms, promotion of culture, and efforts in shaping a strong and progressive Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the bust of Maharaja Ranbir Singh at the Central Sanskrit University campus in Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor also announced the renaming of the university’s Jammu campus as “Shri Maharaja Ranbir Singh Campus.”
Addressing the gathering, Sinha said Maharaja Ranbir Singh viewed Jammu and Kashmir as a living entity rather than just a geographical region. He noted that the ruler believed the true essence of the region lay not only in its mountains and rivers but also in its intellectual and spiritual values.
The Lieutenant Governor said Maharaja Ranbir Singh did not merely govern the region but introduced a new vision that restructured society, promoted knowledge, and enriched cultural traditions, leaving behind a lasting legacy for future generations.
He added that renaming the campus after Maharaja Ranbir Singh reflects that the consciousness and ideals ignited by the ruler more than 150 years ago continue to guide the society of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha also emphasised the important role of youth in building a safer and more prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He urged young people to adopt the humane and progressive values of Maharaja Ranbir Singh and contribute actively to nation-building.
Highlighting India’s broader role in the world, the Lieutenant Governor said the country remains committed to human welfare, global peace, and shared prosperity. He called upon the youth to strengthen India’s intellectual and moral leadership on the global stage.
He further remarked that ancient India always balanced scientific advancement with cultural wisdom, stating that society must nurture personalities who combine intellectual brilliance with moral and spiritual insight.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor also assured financial assistance for establishing Gurukuls, Sanskrit Pathshalas, and Ved Pathshalas in the region.
Among those present on the occasion were Karan Singh, former Union Minister; Vishwamurti Shastri, Padma Shri awardee; Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University; Dr Kamal Kishor Mishra of the Sanskrit University of Calcutta; Prof. R.G. Murali Krishna, Registrar of Central Sanskrit University, Jammu; Prof. Satish Kumar Kapoor, Director of the campus, along with faculty members, senior officials, prominent citizens, and a large number of students.
