LEH: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Tuesday outlined the UT Administration’s vision for driving industrial growth alongside sustainable rural tourism, emphasizing transparent land allocation, inclusive policies, and community empowerment as the pillars of development.
He stressed that fostering investment, creating employment for local youth, and promoting eco-friendly tourism are central to preserving Ladakh’s unique culture and ecology.
The Lt Governor shared these views while interacting with delegations at the LG Secretariat. Members of Looms of Ladakh, representing over 600 artisans from 19 villages, showcased their ethical, herder-artisan-led luxury brand that blends heritage crafts with modern design, upskills traditional artisans, and preserves Ladakh’s cultural legacy.
Entrepreneur Sonam Stanzin highlighted tourism potential in areas including Domkhar, Takmachik, Skurbuchan, and the Aryan Valley, noting Domkhar’s 6,000-year-old rock art and festivals like Apricot and Buckwheat as avenues for livelihood generation.
Delegations from the Anjuman Imamia Women’s Wing and Nambardars from Kargil raised initiatives and demands, including completion of the Kargil-Batalik road and Hamboting-La tunnel to improve connectivity. The Lt Governor assured that the UT Administration remains committed to addressing local concerns, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring equitable development.
Kavinder Gupta reiterated that industrial growth and tourism development will go hand in hand, prioritizing community empowerment, environmental preservation, and sustainable livelihoods. He called on all stakeholders, including entrepreneurs and civil society, to collaborate in realising a vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and eco-friendly Ladakh.
