MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians have announced the elevation of Kieron Pollard to Head Coach, extending one of the franchise’s longest-standing player-to-coach associations in cricket.
Pollard, who joined Mumbai Indians as a 22-year-old, has been associated with the franchise for 16 years, first as a key player and later as batting coach. His appointment reflects the franchise’s focus on continuity, leadership development and building on its successful legacy.
Mrs. Nita M. Ambani, Co-Owner of Mumbai Indians, said Pollard had become an integral part of the MI family, delivering memorable moments as a player and continuing to contribute through his experience and understanding of the game as a coach.
She expressed confidence that Pollard would bring the same commitment, belief and determination to his new role, highlighting his understanding of the MI jersey and the expectations of the team’s supporters, known as the Paltan.
Pollard said taking charge as Head Coach was an honour, describing Mumbai Indians as a major part of his life and career. He thanked Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani and the wider MI family for their trust and said he looked forward to working with the players and support staff to nurture talent and strengthen the team’s legacy.
With extensive experience in T20 cricket, Pollard brings an understanding of the franchise’s culture, tactical demands and the evolving competitive landscape of the format. His transition from player to batting coach and now Head Coach gives him a long-standing connection with the team’s setup.
Mumbai Indians said the appointment underlines its commitment to developing talent, strengthening team culture and pursuing excellence on and off the field as the franchise prepares for its next chapter.
