JAMMU: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav on Tuesday undertook an extensive inspection tour of Ward Nos. 12, 13, 14 and 19, covering prominent areas including Gumat Bazaar, Bhagat Singh Chowk Jewel, Dogra Chowk, M.A. Stadium, Science College, Canal Head, Mohinder Nagar, Maheshpura Chowk and adjoining localities.
During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed the overall sanitation status, inspecting roads, streets, drains and public spaces. He also assessed the progress of ongoing development works and evaluated the availability, functionality and maintenance of civic amenities provided to residents.
Emphasising high standards of hygiene and public health, Dr. Yadav directed the concerned officials to ensure regular door-to-door garbage collection, proper waste segregation and timely desilting and cleaning of drains to prevent waterlogging and health risks.
As part of the inspection drive, illegal encroachments and unauthorised stalls obstructing footpaths and roads were removed to restore public spaces and ensure smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles. The Commissioner instructed enforcement teams to maintain strict vigilance and take firm action against repeat violators to prevent re-encroachment.
Interacting with field staff and officers, Dr. Yadav stressed the need for better inter-departmental coordination, strengthened ward-level monitoring and effective implementation of sanitation initiatives. He underlined that cleanliness efforts must be sustained on a regular basis and not limited to special drives.
Appealing to citizens, the Commissioner urged the public to cooperate with JMC by following responsible waste disposal practices and avoiding encroachments. He reiterated the corporation’s commitment to making Jammu a clean, orderly and citizen-friendly city.
