NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory created history in Indian Taekwondo as young athlete Samrat Singh clinched the gold medal in the Sub-Junior Boys Under-35 kg category at the 39th Sub-Junior National Taekwondo Championship 2025–26, held from January 13 to 15 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here.
The prestigious championship was organised by the Delhi Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI), with support from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC).
Representing Jammu and Kashmir UT, Samrat Singh, a promising trainee of Shield Taekwondo Academy, Doda, displayed remarkable skill and determination, defeating strong competitors from across the country to secure the top podium finish.
Samrat has been training under the expert guidance of Burhan Ud Din Khan, Coach and Referee, whose mentorship played a crucial role in the young athlete’s success. The achievement has brought pride not only to the academy but also to the entire sporting fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir.
The historic gold medal has added significant laurels to the Union Territory and reflects the steady growth of Taekwondo and grassroots sports development in the region.
Officials, coaches and members of the J&K Taekwondo fraternity have congratulated Samrat Singh and his coach on the achievement and wished him continued success in upcoming national and international competitions.
