JAMMU: In a major breakthrough on the anti-drug trafficking front, Jammu Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (165 Battalion), recovered a huge consignment of narcotics worth approximately ₹40 crore in the R S Pura sector of District Jammu near the International Border.
Acting promptly on specific inputs from 165 Bn BSF regarding suspicious drone activity along the border, a joint cordon and search operation was launched during the intervening night of February 13/14, 2026, in the Nai Basti Karotana–Baspur area of R S Pura sector.
During search operations at first light, two yellow-coloured packets containing narcotics were recovered from wheat fields in Nai Basti Karotana, an area located close to the International Border. The consignment is suspected to be a drone dropping from across the border into Indian territory.
Upon preliminary examination, both packets appeared to contain heroin-like substance. A recovery memo was prepared in the presence of a magistrate. The recovered consignment weighed approximately 6.582 kilograms of heroin-like substance, with an estimated international market value of ₹40 crore.
In this connection, FIR No. 36/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station R S Pura. The investigation has been taken up by SHO R S Pura, Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, assisted by Incharge BPP Baspura, SI Ranbir Singh, under the supervision of the SP Headquarters Jammu.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact source and intended destination of the recovered contraband. Police are thoroughly examining both backward and forward linkages in the case, and more breakthroughs are expected.
