JAMMU: A delegation of the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatna on Tuesday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and submitted representations regarding key initiatives concerning the Jain community.
The delegation was led by its President Sandeep Jain Sunny and included General Secretary Monika Jain, Patron Rajeev Jain, and Cultural Secretary Priyanka Jain.
In their memorandum, the Sanghatna urged the Lieutenant Governor to recommend to the Union Ministry of Culture a proposal for organizing “Jainत्व – Sanatan Sanskriti Mahotsav,” a cultural programme aimed at highlighting the philosophical heritage of Jainism and its shared civilizational values such as Ahimsa, compassion, ethical living, and social harmony.
The proposal is intended to be submitted to Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Government of India, for consideration.
In a separate representation, the delegation requested the Lieutenant Governor to issue directions for the closure of all government and private schools in Jammu district on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti falling on March 31, 2026, to enable Jain students and families to participate in religious observances.
The Sanghatna expressed hope that the administration would give due consideration to both requests in the larger interest of promoting India’s cultural heritage and respecting the religious sentiments of the Jain community.
