JAMMU: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Jammu Chapter, organised a Heritage Awareness Workshop for female competitive examination trainees under the NHPC-sponsored Project Veerangna.
Dozens of participants from different districts of the Jammu region attended the workshop and were sensitised about the region’s rich art, architecture, cultural traditions and heritage.
S.M. Sahni, retired JKAS officer and Convenor, INTACH Jammu Chapter, delivered the introductory lecture and spoke about various conservation projects and activities undertaken by INTACH.
“Heritage conservation and preservation of art and culture is our collective responsibility,” he said.
Arvind Kotwal, retired JKAS officer, gave a presentation on the built heritage of Jammu and explained the significance of the region’s tangible heritage, including ancient forts, temples, havelis, bowlis, samadhis and secular structures.
Kirpal Singh, retired Curator of the Dogra Art Museum, delivered a presentation on the folk art of Duggar and highlighted the importance of Jammu’s living traditions.
“Participating in living traditions and their documentation is the need of the hour,” he said.
During the programme, INTACH also honoured Dr Mrinalini Atrey and RJ Juhie for highlighting Jammu’s cultural heritage and history through their social media page, History Mehkama.
Director Floriculture Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Project Veerangna Convenor Preeti Chowdhry, K.K. Sharma, Dr Satwant Singh Rissam and other INTACH office-bearers were also present.
Renowned Aari and bead artists Arun Gupta and Ritu Gupta also attended the workshop.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Lalita Kumari, AFO, while Diksha Kesar, Riya Sharma, Kalyani, Saloni and Khushi conducted the proceedings.
