JAMMU: The The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre, celebrated World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development on March 4, 2026, under the theme “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future.”
The event brought together engineers from various departments and organizations, senior professionals, and members of the committee of IEI Jammu Local Centre.
Er. Habib Choudhary, Managing Director of J&K Power Transmission Corporation Ltd., PDD, J&K Government, attended as the Chief Guest, while Er. Pooja Wazir, Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B) Circle North–Jammu, was the Keynote Speaker. The function was presided over by Er. Anil Verma, FIE, Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre.
In his welcome address, Er. Anil Verma highlighted the significance of the day and emphasized the need for engineers across disciplines to contribute actively toward sustainable infrastructure through smart engineering practices. He urged professionals from academic, scientific, and execution domains to work collectively to build a more livable and sustainable future.
Delivering the keynote address, Er. Pooja Wazir elaborated that smart engineering goes beyond automation and artificial intelligence. She underscored the importance of intelligent planning, efficient resource management, climate-responsive design, renewable energy integration, sustainable materials, and data-driven infrastructure in achieving sustainability goals.
During the seminar, technical papers aligned with the theme were presented by Er. B. L. Rawal, FIE; Er. P. K. Nanda, FIE; Er. Satish Chalotra; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; and Er. Joy Ganjoo, AMTIE.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Er. Habib Choudhary appreciated the engineers for their insightful presentations and reiterated that World Engineering Day provides an annual platform to highlight the critical role of engineering in modern life and sustainable development. He stressed that engineers are pivotal in addressing global challenges and shaping a better future.
Er. Avneet Gupta, MIE, Honorary Secretary, conducted the proceedings and presented the vote of thanks to the distinguished guests, participants, and members of the media for their active involvement.
