SRINAGAR: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday travelled to Srinagar aboard the Vande Bharat train from Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi.
Dr Abdullah arrived in Katra earlier in the day and boarded the high-speed train to Srinagar, officials said.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said the railway connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country has immensely benefited the Valley, providing crucial all-weather access for residents.
“The train has benefited us immensely. Even if flights are cancelled or roads are closed, the train will continue to ply. It will ease the problems of the people,” he said.
Commenting on the recent snowfall, Abdullah said it has been a blessing for Kashmir, especially after a dry spell.
“It has eased some of the problems. We pray for more snowfall as it will be beneficial for us,” he added.
On the issue of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the NC president expressed optimism, saying, “It will also come. It will come on time.”
