RAMBAN: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ramban, in collaboration with the Rural Development Department (RDD), Ramban, today organised a Legal Awareness Camp on Solid Waste Management at Maitra, Ramban.
The camp was held under the guidance of Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, DLSA) Ramban Ajay Kumar Gupta and the supervision of Secretary, DLSA Ramban Priyanka Mahajan.
The Legal Aid Defence Counsels along with the BDOs, sensitised participants on legal provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). Speakers detailed the roles Panchayats and RDD field functionaries must play under the mission guidelines to ensure clean villages.
The camp highlighted segregation of waste at source, prohibition of open dumping and penalties for littering. Enterprises generating more than 4,000 litres of waste a day were informed about mandatory EGWR Certificate requirements. Attendees were reminded of every citizen’s duty to maintain cleanliness and of DLSA Ramban’s provision of free legal aid for grievances linked to sanitation and public health.
BDO Ramban Sunil Kumar and BDO Headquarters Shalini Chandel shared RDD initiatives including the setup of segregation sheds and waste collection drives and urged participants to implement door-to-door waste collection. The Adhikar Mitra, DLSA Ramban explained the link between environmental hygiene and the constitutional Right to Health and assured legal backing to communities implementing the waste management laws.
Among those present were Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel Abdul Rashid Wani, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel Rajinder Singh Bali, Adhikar Mitra DLSA Ramban and representatives of panchayats and local residents.
