KATRA: In preparation for the upcoming Navratra Festival, Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, chaired a joint security review meeting at Katra to evaluate and enhance arrangements for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the holy occasion.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the SSP Reasi, Commanding Officer of CRPF 6th Battalion, SP Katra, SDPO Katra, DySP Bhawan, and representatives from the Army, Intelligence Bureau, CID, Railways, Traffic Police, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
During the session, SSP Reasi presented a detailed security grid plan covering Katra town, the yatra route, and the Shrine area. Emphasizing the significance of the festival, the DIG stated that ensuring foolproof security for pilgrims remains the top priority.
Several key measures were outlined to strengthen security. These include the establishment of random checkpoints for intensified vehicle checking and round-the-clock joint long-range patrolling by the J&K Police and CRPF. Increased foot patrolling, strategic deployment on high-altitude ridges, activation of Village Defence Guards (VDGs), and continuous area domination exercises were also directed.
Special attention was given to crowd management to ensure the safety of pilgrims and to prevent any untoward incidents, including stampedes or acts of sabotage. The DIG also instructed strict verification drives, including background checks of migrants, construction workers, pony porters, and others entering Katra.
Additionally, regular inspections of hotels, lodgings, and homestays were emphasized to verify the credentials of visitors.
The meeting concluded with a strong focus on inter-agency coordination and cooperation, aiming to ensure a safe, secure, and hassle-free Navratra experience for all devotees visiting the Shrine.
