SRINAGAR: A large number of daily wagers and contractual employees on Monday staged a protest march in Srinagar, demanding regularisation of their services in the Jammu and Kashmir government.
The protesters, gathered under the banner of the Employees Joint Action Committee, marched from the Nawa-i-Subah complex to TRC crossing, raising slogans in support of their demand.
Carrying placards that read, “Nothing short of regularisation in service will be acceptable,” the employees urged the government to address their long-pending issues.
The protesters said the government led by Omar Abdullah should “wake up” and fulfil the promises made to them regarding job security and regularisation.
They pointed out that more than 60,000 employees have been working as daily wagers in various departments across Jammu and Kashmir for several years without being regularised.
The Employees Joint Action Committee had earlier organised a similar protest in the city on February 12, reiterating their demand for a comprehensive policy to regularise daily wagers and contractual staff.
