JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) launched a statewide mass contact campaign titled “Har Ghar Dastak, Ghar Ghar Dastak” from Ward No. 6, Belicharana, Jammu, aiming to mobilise public opinion for the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and to highlight key socio-economic and democratic issues facing the Union Territory.
The programme was organised by Congress Sewa Dal J&KUT President Vijay Sharma and witnessed the participation of senior party leaders, grassroots workers and a large number of local residents.
Addressing the gathering, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra said the Congress party has taken upon itself the responsibility of reaching out to every household to expose what he termed as the failures of the present governance framework in Jammu and Kashmir and to stand firmly with the people in their struggle for democratic rights.
He said the continued denial of statehood has led to administrative centralisation, erosion of accountability, weakening of democratic institutions, and growing alienation among the people.
“Statehood is not a concession or charity; it is a constitutional right. The repeated assurances given by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister on the floor of Parliament must now be honoured without further delay,” Karra asserted.
Karra made a strong appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to fulfil the commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of the region’s reorganisation, including the restoration of full statehood and respect for democratic aspirations. He said repeated postponement of these promises has deepened mistrust and uncertainty.
Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla said the campaign aims to establish direct, meaningful and sustained contact with citizens in every ward and village across Jammu and Kashmir. He said party workers will go door-to-door to listen to public grievances, document concerns, spread awareness about the Congress party’s stand on statehood restoration, and mobilise people for democratic assertion of rights.
Several other senior JKPCC leaders and party functionaries were also present during the launch of the campaign.
