JAMMU: The CID Counter-Intelligence (CI) Jammu has achieved a major operational breakthrough with the arrest of Hilal Ahmed Bhat, a long-absconding accused in a Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) case.
Hilal Ahmed Bhat, son of Mohd Assad Ullah Bhat and a resident of Poshpora, Kupwara—currently living in Bhagani Talab Mohalla, Raipur Domana, Jammu—was arrested following the execution of an absconder warrant issued under Section 512 CrPC by the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu. The warrant had also been issued against his father, Mohd Assad Ullah Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohd Bhat, a resident of Poshpora, Kupwara.
Both accused were wanted in an FICN case registered as FIR No. 05/2007 under Sections 489A, 489B and 489C of the RPC at Police Station CID (CI), Jammu. They had been absconding for nearly a decade and had deliberately evaded the judicial process during the course of the trial.
Acting on specific and credible intelligence, the Fugitive Tracking Team of CID (CI) Jammu launched a swift and well-coordinated operation, leading to the arrest of Hilal Ahmed Bhat in Jammu. After his arrest, the accused was produced before the competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The operation reiterates CID J&K’s zero-tolerance policy against FICN networks and their support systems. The agency has reaffirmed its commitment to relentlessly pursue fugitives, dismantle FICN and terror-support infrastructures, and ensure that individuals involved in such offences are brought to justice.
