KATRA: A one-day awareness camp for gold and silver jewellery dealers of Reasi and Udhampur districts was organised today at Katra by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs in coordination with the Department of Legal Metrology, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Jewellers Association Reasi/Udhampur.
The camp aimed to sensitise dealers to BIS hallmarking provisions, prescribed purity standards, Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID), consumer rights and statutory compliance requirements governing the jewellery trade.
A representative of the Bureau of Indian Standards delivered a presentation on hallmarking, HUID, purity standards and compliance requirements, emphasising adherence to prescribed standards for ensuring transparency and protecting consumer interests. The participating dealers also raised queries on various aspects of hallmarking and regulatory compliance, which were addressed by the concerned officers.
The programme was organised under the direction of R.K. Shavan, Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Jammu, and attended by Sham Abrol, Deputy Director Supplies; Manoj Prabhakar, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology; Joint Director, BIS; Assistant Director Mills; and Assistant Director, FCS&CA Reasi, besides representatives and dealers of the Jewellers Association from Reasi and Udhampur.
