MUMBAI: Playback singer and songwriter Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing, clarifying that he is not stepping away from music altogether.
Sharing the update on Instagram, Arijit thanked his listeners for their love and support and said he will no longer take up new assignments as a playback vocalist. Calling it “a wonderful journey,” the singer added that he will, however, complete his pending projects, some of which are expected to release later this year.
“I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on… Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music,” he wrote, adding that he plans to continue learning and creating music independently as an artist.
Arijit’s recent work includes Matrubhumi from The Battle of Galwan. He began his musical journey after participating in Fame Gurukul in 2005 and made his Hindi film debut with Phir Mohabbat (Murder 2, 2011).
Over the years, he has delivered numerous chartbusters including Tum Hi Ho, Kesariya and Binte Dil. A recipient of two National Film Awards, Arijit Singh was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 2025.
