JAMMU: The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Khadam Hussain, a clerk posted at the Treasury Office, Kalakote, Rajouri, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant.
According to the ACB, a written complaint was received from a retired fourth-class employee of the Health Department, who sought to withdraw his gratuity amount of ₹50,000 from the Treasury Office, Kalakote.
The complainant alleged that when he approached the Treasury Office regarding the withdrawal, he met Khadam Hussain, who allegedly demanded ₹25,000 as illegal gratification for processing his case.
The complainant reportedly requested the official to consider his financial condition, stating that he was a poor person. However, the alleged demand continued, following which the bribe amount was negotiated and settled at ₹20,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and submitted a written complaint seeking legal action. The allegations were subsequently verified and, after registration of the case, a team from ACB Police Station Rajouri was constituted to conduct a trap operation.
During the operation, the ACB team allegedly caught Khadam Hussain red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant.
The accused official was arrested on the spot. Subsequently, searches were also conducted at his residential premises in Rajouri in connection with the case.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
