MOGA (PUNJAB): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab over the issue of alleged religious conversions, stating that if the Bharatiya Janata Party forms the government in the state, the first bill it will introduce will be aimed at banning such conversions.
Addressing the ‘Badlav Rally’, Shah also targeted the Indian National Congress, blaming it for the rise of terrorism in the border state during its rule. He further criticised the Congress over the inclusion of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan at the time of Partition, while highlighting that the government led by Narendra Modi later built the Kartarpur Corridor to facilitate pilgrimage.
Shah alleged that Punjab is currently facing multiple challenges including drugs, gangsterism, corruption and religious conversions, and said only a BJP government can address these issues effectively.
The Home Minister announced that the BJP would contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections with the aim of forming the government. He said a “double-engine” BJP government would help eliminate drugs, generate employment for youth and strengthen development in the state.
He also targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership, accusing the state government of functioning under the influence of leaders from Delhi.
Shah alleged that the AAP leadership had misused Punjab’s resources and said the state government had failed to deliver on its promises of change.
