JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police have transferred Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gandhi Nagar, Sunil Jasrotia, after he allegedly assaulted a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer during election duty in Nagrota.
The incident reportedly occurred when Azhar Khan, a JKAS officer posted as Block Development Officer (BDO) and serving as Nodal Officer (Transport Incharge) for the by-election, was allegedly abused and assaulted on Monday during the distribution of polling parties.
In protest, JKAS officers have written to the Lieutenant Governor expressing “deep anguish and strong protest over the unfortunate and shocking incident.” The Association has resolved to proceed on mass casual leave with immediate effect unless strict action is initiated against the accused officer and preventive mechanisms are established.
According to an official order issued by Police Headquarters, DySP Sunil Jasrotia has been transferred with immediate effect and directed to report to PHQ Jammu for further posting. DySP Kuljit Singh, previously serving as SDPO Basohli, has been posted as SDPO Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, with immediate effect.
